Wine Advocate 88 points - The 2011 Chakalaka is a blend of Shiraz, Grenache, Tannat, Carignan and Duif that undergoes some machine harvesting in the morning and is fermented in open concrete vats. It shows decent freshness on the nose, although it is missing some personality and vigor compared to other vintages. The palate is sweet and plush on the entry with a velvety texture - layers of kirsch and cassis with a creamy veneer toward the finish. It will certainly have commercial appeal, but it does not really translate the notion of Swartland. Drink now-2016. (Oct 2013)
